How to Save a WhatsApp Status (No Website Can Do It)
Websites that promise to download WhatsApp statuses can't work. Here is why, and the methods that really save a status on Android and iPhone.

Search for "WhatsApp status download" and you'll find plenty of websites offering to do it. None of them can, and it's worth understanding why before you hand one of them your phone number.
Why a website can't download a WhatsApp status
Every downloader on the web, including Yocker, works the same way: you give it a public link, and it fetches the file that link points to. A WhatsApp status has no link. It is end-to-end encrypted and sent only to the phones of the contacts allowed to see it. It never sits on a public web page, so there is nothing for a website to fetch.
Any site that claims to do it is after something else, usually your phone number, a login, or ad clicks. Don't enter a WhatsApp verification code anywhere except in WhatsApp itself; that code is all someone needs to take over your account.
What does work is saving the status from your own phone, because once you've watched it, your phone already has a copy.
Ask first
A status is something a person shared with their contacts for 24 hours. The decent move, and the simplest one, is to reply to the status and ask them to send you the photo or video. You get the full-quality original, and they know you have it.
Android: find the status your phone already saved
When you view a status, WhatsApp keeps a temporary copy in a hidden folder. It stays there until the status expires.
- Watch the status in WhatsApp first. Statuses you haven't opened aren't stored.
- Open your file manager. Files by Google works on any phone.
- Turn on hidden files: tap the menu (☰ or ⋮) → Settings → Show hidden files.
- Go to Internal storage → Android → media → com.whatsapp → WhatsApp → Media → .Statuses.
- Copy the photo or video you want to another folder, such as Downloads or Pictures. Copy rather than move, and do it before the 24 hours are up.
The folder name starts with a dot, which is why it's invisible until hidden files are shown. If you use WhatsApp Business, the path contains com.whatsapp.w4b instead.
What about "Status Saver" apps?
The status-saver apps on the Play Store do exactly the steps above for you. They're convenient, but many are packed with ads and ask for more permissions than they need. If you try one, check its reviews, and don't install anything that wants your contacts, SMS or a WhatsApp login.
iPhone: there is no folder
iOS doesn't let you browse another app's storage, so the Android method has no equivalent. Your options are:
- Ask the person to send it. Still the best result.
- Photo status: take a screenshot, then crop it.
- Video status: use Screen Recording. Add it to Control Centre in Settings → Control Centre, start recording, play the status, then stop. Trim the ends in Photos.
Screen recordings capture at your screen's resolution and may not include the sound if your phone is on silent, so check the result.
Saving your own status
Your own status is just a photo or video from your phone, so you already have the original in your gallery. If you made it with WhatsApp's camera and didn't keep it, open Updates → My status, tap the status, then the ⋮ / ⋯ menu, and forward it to yourself or a saved chat to get the file back.
Videos from other apps
If the clip someone put in their status originally came from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or X, ask them for the link or look it up there. With a link to the original public post you can download it in full quality:
